It is difficult to illustrate such a horrific story. Thankfully, Peter Storch, the A.D. at the Phoenix New Times, had an interesting and creatively different approach and I was happy to give it a go. He suggested a series of Rorschach print inspired drawings as a response to the tragedy. The cover above and drawings below are very different from my usual work and I am proud of them, though I must say it was an emotionally draining experience creating these illustrations because I had to constantly revisit the details of the story to get ideas for the imagery.





A note about the above image: President Obama said in his memorial speech that Christina Green, the nine year old victim in the shootings, was jumping in rain puddles up in Heaven. That line inspired this drawing.
